On my birth certificate Dad spelt my name Derrick, Mum was wilde with him but it was never altered. They always used the Derek spelling.

Typhoid 1950 Pinetown Natal, went to Marion Hill Hospital.

Given an injection of bad Penicillin in the 50's in bed for weeks swollen up like a balloon,now am allergic to it.

• School: Kearsney College, 1942-1943, Bothas Hill, Natal, South Africa. Am very grateful for the excellent education they gave me and am proud to be a 'Kearsney Old Boy

Derek married Lilias Margaret Wilson, daughter of John Kay Wilson and Marion Brown, on 11 Dec 1948 in Durban South Africa. (Lilias Margaret Wilson was born on 7 Jul 1925 in Greengairs Lanark. Scotland and died on 21 Jun 2015 in Nelson.)
